Where to stay in Spetses
Most people stay in or just behind the town, and it is the right call for a two-night visit: you can walk everywhere, the horse carriages and water taxis leave from the quay, and the evening is bars and long dinners rather than clubs. The trade-off is price, because the harbour front sets the tone and rates follow the yachts. A short walk back from the water, or out towards the old harbour, buys quiet and better value while keeping you within a walk of dinner. Further round the coast there are places closer to the swimming, but you commit to a scooter or a taxi every evening, and the town centre is closed to general traffic anyway. Remember you cannot bring a car: it stays on the mainland. If you want to be here for the Armata weekend in early September, book months ahead, because the island fills completely.
